Introduction to Nanoscience – Overview
- Overview
This course is an initiative from the Center of Nanoscience (CeNS) and it is aimed to provide master students from Physics, Chemistry and Biology a complete and interdisciplinary background around all emerging topics in Nanoscience. The course will be structured as weekly lectures divided in four modules: nano-physics, nano-chemistry, nano-bio and nano-materials. Each module will cover the basics of each field and state of the art methods and applications. The nano-bio module will cover biophysical basics and quantitative description of ligand-binding processes, basics of single-molecule detection and biological applications and single-molecule FRET for study of structural dynamics in proteins. The nano-chemistry one will provide an overview of different nanostructured materials and chemical synthetic routes, looking at the role of the ligands, stability and applications. It will also provide a deep insight into DNA nanotechnology: design, synthesis and applications of intelligent materials. The nano-physics module will present electrical, magnetic and optical properties of nanomaterials, 2D materials and emerging properties in confined materials as well as applications in energy and sustainability. Finally, the nano-materials module will deepen in nanomaterials synthesis and fabrication, characterization techniques at the nanoscale, emerging nanomaterials and applications.
