The adventure of microarcsecond astrometry from space: challenges, results and promises of Gaia

Prof. Dr. Sergei A. Klioner (Lohrmann Observatory, TU Dresden)

Datum:  25.01.2021 17:15 Uhr – 18:30 Uhr

Ort: Zoom, Password: Kolloquium

ESA's space astrometry mission Gaia started its scientific operations in July 2014. Gaia has already delivered an immense dataset of high-accuracy positional and photometric observations which already led to three Data Releases containing high-accuracy data of over 1.8 billion sources. In this presentation I will briefly overview the principles and ideas of space astrometry with Gaia. I will review the challenges of Gaia data processing and highlight some recent results. I will also outline what we have to expect from Gaia in the next several years.

The Colloquium will take place online: Zoom (Password: Kolloquium)
