Proteins as mechano-chemical nanoswitches: from atomistic simulations to medical applications

Prof. Dr. Viola Vogel (ETH Zürich)

Datum:  10.07.2019 17:15 Uhr – 18:30 Uhr

Ort: Hörsaal 2, Physik-Department der TUM, Garching

Even though life is happening far away from equilibrium, our knowledge of proteins is mostly based on their equilibriums structures, even today. Yet, much research has provided considerable evidence that bacteria and cells exploit proteins as mechano-chemical switches. Protein stretching can alter their structure and thereby activate or destroy binding sites. Examples will be discussed together with asking how to translate the knowledge generated in mechanobiology into the clinic.

Student event: Meet the speaker

We invite you to a student-only discussion-round with Prof. Dr. Viola Vogel before her Munich Physics Colloquium talk. Be curious and feel free to ask any question.
Wednesday, 10th of July 2019, 16:00 h, Seminar room PH 3268 (upper floor), Physik-Department der TUM, James-Franck-Straße 1, Garching.
