High energy neutrinos from the Cosmos ? Recent results from the IceCube Neutrino Telescope

Prof. Elisa Resconi (Physik-Department/TUM and Excellence Cluster 'Universe')

Datum:  19.12.2013 16:00 Uhr – 17:00 Uhr

Ort: Am Coulombwall 1, Garching
Lecture Hall (ground floor)

The neutrino observatory IceCube is opening a new observational window to the Universe. IceCube, which has been fully constructed in the icecap at the South Pole, is taking data since Spring 2011 in full configuration.
The first years of data reveled the existence of extremely high neutrinos at the PeV scale. The observed diffuse neutrino flux is with high probability of astrophysical origin.
In this talk I will summarize the recent observation and discuss the prospect for point source searches.
