Structural biology is undergoing the “revolution of resolution” and advances of technologies have allowed expanding our knowledge towards huge protein complexes of unmatched size and complexity. However, insight on how these structures respond to external forces found in cellular environments is lacking behind. Our research group is interested in investigating underlying mechanisms of protein structure elasticity to cope with these forces. Recent data by our group on two model proteins, one involved in muscle contraction and the other one involved in regulating hemostasis, provide clues how their structures may respond to cellular forces. These results will be presented and discussed.
